East Izu Coast Day Tour · Mt Omuro, Izu Shaboten Zoo, Seaside Train & Jogasaki Coast (Departing from Tokyo)

A matcha-green volcano, a cactus zoo full of friendly animals, a seaside train and lava cliffs — the best of East Izu in one day.

This tour links four classic East Izu scenes. Ride the chairlift up Mt Omuro, a bowl-shaped volcano, then meet capybaras and alpacas up close at Izu Shaboten Zoo at the foot of the mountain. In the afternoon, hop on the Izukyu seaside train along the coast, and finish on the Kadowaki suspension bridge at Jogasaki Coast, right above the Pacific. Great for families and photographers.

Itinerary for the Day

1. 08:00 Meet at Tokyo Station
   Drive to the Izu Peninsula by expressway (about 2 hours).
2. 10:00 Mt Omuro
   Take the chairlift up (about 6 minutes) and walk around the 1 km-wide crater; on clear days you can see Mt Fuji (about 1.5 hours).
3. 11:30 Izu Shaboten Zoo · Lunch
   See over 350 kinds of cacti and succulents and meet capybaras, alpacas and peacocks up close; lunch on your own at the zoo restaurant (about 1.5 hours).
4. 13:15 Izukyu Seaside Train
   Board the seaside train at Izu-Kogen Station and enjoy the East Izu coastline from sea-facing seats (about 1 hour; the vehicle picks you up at the station where you get off).
5. 14:30 Jogasaki Coast
   Walk the trail along the volcanic coast, cross the 23 m-high Kadowaki suspension bridge and look out over the Pacific from Kadowaki Lighthouse (about 1.5 hours).
6. 18:00 Back at Tokyo Station
   End of the East Izu day tour.

Important Note

Chairlift, zoo and train tickets are not included (approximate prices: Mt Omuro chairlift return about ¥1,000 per adult; zoo admission about ¥2,700–2,800, ¥200 off with a Mt Omuro lift ticket; train fare from about ¥790, plus about ¥200 for a reserved seat on the seaside train) and may change. The chairlift may stop in strong wind; seaside train services are limited, so the ride follows that day's timetable.
